BENDIGO TRIP - APRIL, 2016

Recently, we took a trip up to Bendigo which is about a 3 hour drive from home.  We hadn't been there before and thought it was about time we went for a short break.  The attraction I have to admit was the Marilyn Monroe Exhibit at the Art Gallery which I wanted to see before it finished in July.

On show were Marilyn's many costumes from her movies plus some of her own personal wardrobe.   Also included were movie scripts with her handwritten notes, many photos never seen before plus letters from the studio warning that she was holding up production by not turning up or turning up late.  Photography was strictly forbidden in the gallery unfortunately.

We bought a ticket which allowed us to use the tram for 2 days, entry to the Central Deborah Gold Mine Experience, Bendigo Pottery and also the Golden Dragon Museum - all of which were well worth visiting.

In the mine, we were given helmets and lights to go down to the 2nd level where our guide showed us around and gave us a bit of the history of the mine.  It was very interesting and the time just flew by.  We were in the mine for over an hour and when we came up, the sun was shining and it was a lovely day.   We didn't find any gold.

We spent a fair amount of time at the Golden Dragon Museum which had an indoors part and a Chinese garden.  There was plenty to see in both including various dragons used for processions, and lots of Chinese antiques and mock up sets of shops etc.  All very interesting.

On another day we visited the Cathedral and walked all the way around it before we actually entered.  It's a lovely building with beautiful architecture.

The fountain in the middle of Bendigo looked lovely.  It's named the Alexandra Fountain.

We really enjoyed our short holiday and managed to fit a lot into 4 days before heading home.  The weather was beautiful every day except for the morning we were leaving when it was pouring with rain.
