SURFERS PARADISE - 2009

Well, that's another holiday to Surfers Paradise gone and we had a brilliant time yet again. The weather was beautiful every day with temperatures being around 25ÂșC with only a little rain overnight on two nights, but it dried up quickly in the morning.

We had a very nice apartment at the Surfers Plaza above the Commerce Bowling Club where they served cheap meals in the restaurant and had a bar with live entertainment and you could try lawn bowls if you wished - we didn't because we didn't want to make fools of ourselves!!!

This is a view of our apartment

We went on the whale watching trip which leaves from Appel Park on the river at Surfers which was really convenient with our apartment building being a short stroll from the wharf. I didn't think we'd see any whales but we saw at least 6 and they were very active.

We also went to the Australian Outback Spectacular which was excellent. The 3 course meal served was good too, but the trick riding was brilliant. The audience were split into two teams, one team wearing hats with yellow bands and the other team had hats with red bands. We were on the Wondoola Station team and wore hats with red hatbands. This meant a lot of clapping and cheering so that our side would win, however, we lost but we weren't beaten by much.

I was a bit disappointed that we couldn't take photos within the arena area so I just made do with a programme which had some nice photos in it anyway. I did take a few photos in the bar area (that was allowed).

We spent a lot of time around Cavill Avenue and the streets that run off it - lots of nice places to eat and some great shops. You can get a really nice (and cheap) meal at the Surf Lifesaving Club or the RSL so you don't have to spend a fortune in restaurants keeping your money for other things.

Before we knew it, it was time to go home. Arriving back in Melbourne, the coats went back on as it was really chilly. Oh well, back to work next week for John and thoughts of where to go next year around this time.
